So you’re new to Los Angeles and now you have the worst acne of your life? Yeah, girl you are not alone. This city brings out the worst before it brings out the best. Hang in there! Here are 4 things you can do now to start clearing your acne in as little as 4 months.
- filtered water
- super lysine
- jojoba oil + tea tree
- celery juice
If you are casually cooking and drinking water from the faucet, or drinking from plastic filtered water bottles, just stop! LA has horrible water quality and the filtered water on the shelves of the grocery are actually tap. We all know to not drink out of the faucet in another country, and we may as well include ours too. I bit the bullet and bought a Berkey Water Filter, and began drinking and cooking with the filtered water exclusively. This step for me was a game changer.
Super Lysine is a powerful blend of Lysine, Propolis and Echinacea. While some online Dermatology sources do not recommend lysine for acne, I have to say here, do your own research, and don’t let one source of information keep you from making an informed decision. The combination of Lysine with the Echinacea and Propolis I believe are the acne clearing duo that make this supplement my holy grail. Echinacea is a powerful antibacterial, antiviral and has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body while propolis has a special compound called pinocembrin, a flavoniod that also acts as an anti-fungal. Both of these have been accounted for since ancient Egypt and Greece for their wound healing properties.
Let me save you from buying into the “skin care” market with my best skin care tip, Jojoba oil. The vitamin E and B complex keep your skin moisturized and is similar to the oil your skin naturally produces. Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and is clinically seen to benefit cystic acne, psoriasis and eczema. To super boost your Jojoba oil, add Tea Tree oil! Just add one drop per use and massage it around your chin and cheeks. Tea Tree oil fights bacteria, fungus and has been shown to prevent infection while accelerating wound healing.
My fourth tip is my very best, Celery Juice! By now you’ve probably heard the hype and hopefully you have tried it. I found the best source of information to be from the Medical Medium, where you can hear some truth about foods for healing chronic conditions. Food is medicine and I believe there is always room for improving our relationship with food. Celery juice is a powerful liver cleanser and has erased not only my cystic acne, but my frequent cold sore break outs as well. I used to get them nearly every month and now I drink celery juice 1-2 times weekly and have not had an outbreak in over 6 months. Along with other plants like cucumber, cilantro and parsley, combined and eaten regularly can have healing properties that reduce inflammation in our digestive tracks. The boost of energy from drinking celery juice will have you questioning your relationship with coffee. A clear gut is a clear mind, is clear skin!
Cystic acne is literally the worst, but it is also an insight into the health of your body. Our bodies change rapidly due to environment, stress, emotions, menstruation and food. I encourage you to find a Nutritionist, Herbalist, Naturopath, Chinese Medicine practitioner or Ayurvedic practitioner to sort out what your body needs. Find a health practitioner who can steer you toward your highest health. I personally have found nutrition and herbal medicine to be the most helpful in managing my internal gut flora environment but I encourage you to find the approach that resonates with you.
There is so much healing for your skin and liver that can take place with these 4 simple recommendations! Do your research too so you can make an empowered choice about what you put into your body. You can heal your cystic acne and it may only require the addition of these 4 simple steps.
